Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 5, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Video Detector collects, uses, stores, and protects information through its website, browser extension, and related services.

Video Detector does not require a user account. Pro access works through a license key, and most extension preferences are stored locally in your browser.

Video Detector's use of information collected through Chrome extension permissions complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Extension settings stored locally in your browser, such as preferences and activation state.
  • Browsing activity data needed to provide the user-facing detection feature, such as page URLs, frame URLs, and media request metadata used to identify supported downloadable files.
  • License-related information, such as license key status, activation timestamps, and device identifiers used to enforce activation limits.
  • Limited technical request data needed to validate licenses, secure the service, and prevent abuse.
  • If you contact support, the information you include in your message, such as your email address and support request details.

3. Browser Extension Permissions

The extension may use browser permissions such as tabs, downloads, webRequest, storage, offscreen, and declarativeNetRequest in order to detect supported media, manage download actions, replay required request headers, and save user preferences.

These permissions are used only to operate the product's user-facing download features. They are not intended for selling user data, profiling users, or building advertising audiences.

4. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Browsing activity and media request data accessed by the extension is used only to provide or improve the product's direct video detection and download features described in the extension UI and Chrome Web Store listing.

We do not sell this data, use it for personalized advertising, transfer it to data brokers, or allow humans to read it except when necessary for support you request, security or abuse investigation, or legal compliance.

We do not use collected browsing activity for any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose as a supported direct video detector and downloader.

5. Payment Processing and License Validation

Pro payments are processed by a third-party payment provider, Dodo Payments. We do not directly store full card numbers or full payment instrument details on our own systems.

Dodo Payments also handles license key issuance and receives license activation or validation requests sent from the extension when you activate Pro or refresh license status.

Payment providers and licensing providers may collect and process transaction or license-related information under their own privacy terms.

6. How We Use Information

  • To operate the extension and website.
  • To detect supported downloadable media on pages the user visits.
  • To issue, activate, and validate license keys.
  • To enforce activation limits and prevent abuse.

  • To improve product reliability and troubleshoot service issues.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We may share limited information with service providers that help us run the product, such as Dodo Payments for checkout and license services, email providers, and hosting providers used for operational purposes.

We share only the information reasonably necessary to provide those services, secure the product, prevent abuse, or comply with law.

8. Data Retention

We retain data only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain licensing records, comply with legal obligations, and address abuse or support issues.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.
